VILCANOTA
(Armando Guevara Ochoa)
INKUYO Back
The Incas called it Willkamayu, the sacred river, and it was along this fertile valley that they built the majestic citadels of P'isaq, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. The name of the river was altered by the Spanish influence and it is presently known as Vilcanota. This piece was originally written for a classical string quintet by the celebrated Peruvian composer.
