Wayno music is ubiquitous in the Peruvian Andes. It is as popular among indigenous peasants in the remote rural areas as it is among mestizos in the larger villages. Wayno is also known by other names in various areas: kashwa in Cajamarca, chimayche in Amazonas and Huánuco, chuscada in Ancash, pampeña in Arequipa, and huaylacha in the Colca Valley of Arequipa.
