The "danza de tijeras", or scissors dance, is performed exclusively in the Chanka region (Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurímac, and parts of Arequipa), during the festival cycle, and by migrants from this region in Lima.

It is a dance of ritual competition in which the dancers try to outdo each other in a demonstration of their choreographic abilities and boldness.
